Pilot Solar Power Scheme Takes Off In Taunton DeaneBorough Council
by Stuart at 2007-03-28 12:57:51 (Forum::Public::NottinghamDeclarn)
As part of the Council’s commitment to improving energy efficiency, a new scheme to
help Taunton Deane households to install solar power systems is now available in
partnership with British Gas. Taunton Deane homeowners will be eligible for a rebate on
their council tax bill of up to £500 if they install solar panels on their property. The pilot
scheme is the first in the country and if successful, British Gas has plans to roll-out the
solar scheme nationally.
Ideally, solar power is the next step for households who have already taken the first steps
by insulating their loft and cavity walls. Solar Thermal Hot Water and Solar Photovoltaic
(PV) systems do not generate green house emissions and can dramatically reduce
energy bills, which can only be a good thing for local residents. If residents want to find
out more about the new solar scheme, please call 0845 971 7731 and quote TDBC.
Cllr Mark Edwards, Executive Councillor for Housing Services, Taunton Deane Borough
Council said, “As the success of the household insulation scheme has shown, Taunton
Deane residents are extremely aware when it comes to environmental issues and the
added benefits to household heating bills. We are extremely pleased that British Gas has
singled out Taunton Deane as the place to pilot the solar scheme for the benefit of our
residents who are ready to take the plunge to even greener homes.”
Phil Bentley, Managing Director, British Gas said, “Our council tax rebate schemes have
broken through the inertia that holds back the take-up of energy saving measures. We
have shown that financially providing incentives to customers to “go green” works and we
now want to repeat that success with other energy saving technologies.”
