In order to be able to sell ROC’s, you will need to register yourself with Ofgem as a Small Scale Renewable Energy generator.
Information is available on the Ofgem website under Small Generators. With this complete you will then need to enter into a sale and buy back agreement with an energy supplier. This is effectively an agreement whereby the energy supplier agrees to purchase your generated energy for zero value and then sell it back to you for zero value. This really seems to be a piece of red tape, but is required to show that the renewable energy has been supplied to a customer.
Once this is complete and you have provided all relevant generating readings to Ofgem, at the end of the annual period they will provide a ROC electronically into your ROC account, if you have generated over 500kWh in the year. This ROC can then be traded to an energy supplier, the market rate for one ROC currently being circa £40.
