Bergey 10kW Excel seven year itch

My Bergey turbine experience 7 years on ...
Those of you following this blog will know that in general we have had positive experience with our Bergey turbine (the UK’s 1st grid-tied Bergey) and have been averaging around 13,000 kWh p.a. for the 6 years following installation. After sales service from Bergey has been excellent too and they now benefit from having a professional distributor ( SIAC ) in the UK and Ireland; there are now a significant number of Bergey turbines being installed this side of the pond.

I did have a problem with the tail and auto furling mechanism (see attached photos), which resulted in a number of parts having to be replaced. However, Bergey & SIAC kindly undertook this, even though we were just outside their 5 year warranty (Bergey now provide a 10 year cover on new machines). Bergey also kindly offered to replace our original Xantrex inverter for a refurbished Powersync II, which is their current inverter.

Unfortunately, the repairs and replacement inverter have been problematic to say the least; from having an extremely reliable turbine, we have since experienced nothing but problems and have generated virtually nothing for the past 8 months.

We are now awaiting resolution of our various issues and SIAC and Bergey are discussing various options. Hopefully, a solution will soon be found and the situation resolved…. we certainly hope so.
