PV - new roof - is photovoltaics a runner?

Is it sense or nonsense to use PV roofing tiles on the south side of a new roof?
A friend is re-doing the whole roof; to increase draughtproofing, insulation, leakproofing, re-jig chimneys etc.
Should PV tiles be contemplated? It is assumed that ROC's would be the main method of realising any benefit.
