Wind Turbine and Reed Bed
by david godwin at 2009-02-25 19:59:48 (Forum::Public::General)
I am at the planning stage of building a new house as eco as possible and require some advice from people who already have experience as this is a first time project.

I am planning to install ground source heating and would like advice about a wind turbine to power it. The site is on Great Bernera, Isle of Lewis, Outer Hebrides HS2 9LX the site seems fairly sheltered compared to other locations on the island its approx 5m above sea level. Any advice about how to store excess energy or things that I should be aware of would be much appreciated.

I also plan to install a reed bed instead of a filter bed in conjunction with a Diamond sewage treatment plant as we don't have mains drains. It will only need to cope with 2 people and the occasional visitor. We are in the process of getting some native reeds locally and would welcome any advice on design or potential problems.

When the project is up and running will try and post with updates.
