'Science for Environment Policy' subscribers are in for a treat this month with the launch of a new service.
by Stuart at 2008-05-07 12:02:13 (News)
Catering to subscriber demand, Directorate-General Environment of the European Commission has extended the popular weekly news service for policy makers to include focused thematic issues. In a recently conducted survey, subscribers requested issues focused on specific topics, believing the added context possible in a focused issue would bring additional benefits.
The new thematic issues will reflect current thinking on key environmental policy issues, adding significantly to the news alert service, which already acts as an important line of communication between the international research and the public policy communities.

Topics for the thematic issues are chosen according to the environmental policy agenda. Our first thematic issue will focus on Biofuels and will be sent to subscribers in addition to their regular weekly news alert. Future issues are planned on:
Carbon Capture and Storage
Sustainable Consumption & Production
Air Pollution & Emission Trading
Deforestation
Water
Invasive Alien Species
Climate Change Adaptation
Biodiversity
GMOs

The news alerts are edited by the Science Communication Unit at the University of the West of England (UWE), a university which runs a Masters Programme in Science Communication.

The managing editor for the service, Emma Weitkamp, and her team select a range of recently published environmental research studies and 'translate' them into language easily understood by non-scientists. These easy to read news alerts are distributed by e-mail to subscribers every week and they are also available on the news alert website at: http://ec.europa.eu/environment/integration/research/research_alert_en.htm

You can subscribe to the service either by sending an email to sfep@uwe.ac.uk with the message line: 'subscribe-SciEnvPol' or by visiting the news alert website at: http://ec.europa.eu/environment/integration/research/research_alert_en.htm
