Project investigates the effect of nitrogen loss on climate change
A €27m European research project is investigating the global nitrogen cycle, a little known but important cause of global warming, air pollution and biodiversity loss.
The ‘NitroEurope’ team, led by the UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology, part of the Natural Environment Research Council hopes to find out what the overall effect of nitrogen is on the European greenhouse gas balance. This will aid understanding of the interactions in the nitrogen cycle, and show how this affects many of the world’s environmental problems. Find out more at http://www.nerc.ac.uk/
