Just signed up to the forum, found it very helpful and interesting so far. I'm planning on installing a 6KW Proven Turbine linking into to my 3 phase electric supply. My installer has recommend connecting it to 3 2.5Kw windy boy inverters, he says that this will allow me to get as much as 7.5Kw if there is enough wind.
Does anyone have any experience of an install like this.
Thanks

Have you considered the Tulipo from WES. This is a fantastic turbine that outputs in three phase as standard.
It is a great turbine made by a large scale manufacturer. It is basically a full scale turbine built small. It is all computer controlled etc etc.

None of the installers have mentioned that one to me, is it a 5Kw machine, it also seems to have a lower tower height of 12m, do you have one? -- CJL |

Hi
It can be on a 15m mast, they can add a section at the bottom of the 12m one. It is a 5 or 6kw system but the system is limited to 2,5kw to keep the sound levels so low. This probably can be delimited. I got planning permission for the Tulipo (See my blog) but then discovered it was three phase and had to get the planning changed to buy the Proven. Which worked out slightly more expensive I believe.
Willow Energy who advertise on this site supply the Tulipo why not call them! |

I'll Give them a call tomorrow,
Thanks Stuart. if it is a 5 or 6KW machine could I get the grant for 5 or 6KW even if it is limited to 2.5? |

If you mean a Low Carbon Building Programme grant (used to be Clear Skies) then the maximum you can get is £2500 anyway.

I'm in N. Ireland so at the minute we can get £2000 per KW up to a maximum of £8000, they are doing away with this grant though -- CJL |

Are you going to use all the output? If not, then buyback for export is normally much lower than your import cost - so you may be better choosing a smaller turbine.
The issue of 3ph connections is governed by the 16A/phase max connection under G83/1. Provens have been installed with 1 6kW inverter or 2 or more smaller ones I believe. Sometimes this is for installer convenience - they are pretty heavy! You need to consider usage per phase and phase balancing. If all your load is through two phases then stick to two inverters and use them on the loaded phases to maximise reduction in import. |

I'm going to be using it to pwoer my 3 phase heat pump so hopefully I will be using most of the output.

In N Ireland will you find enough need for heating in the warmer months? Should, that is, the wind blows. -- muymalestado |
