Re: Schools and Wind Turbines

Orkney has just had its first grid connected chool turbine installed (small 100 watt 12V turbines on fencing posts excepted!). North Walls Junior High School have just had an Eoltec Scirocco 6 kW turbine installed, partly for reducing the energy demand from the grid (the turbine is expected to produce between 20 and 25,000 kWh per annum), but also as an educational resource.

Turbine output, as well as wind direction, wind speed, solar insolation, temperature and humidity are all logged and transmitted into the School and local authorities IT systems, to enable the performace of the turbine to be evaluated, and also to enable it to form the centrepiece of environmental projects.
